I graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette in August 2017 with a Ph.D. in Political Science with a focus in public policy and American government. I received a BA in Government and American Studies from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA and an MA in Political Science from Northern Illinois University. I am interested in issues related to contentious public policymaking, women in politics, and comparative public policy. My dissertation focuses on a cross-national comparison of policies that seek to indirectly weaken or undermine other existing laws.
I have taught POL222: Women, Politics, and Public Policy ten separate times at Purdue. I developed the class from scratch and over the course of teaching it ten times, developed several original assignments. The class sought to engender a greater understanding of women’s policy issues, women in the political system, and how gender operates in both Americans society as well as throughout the globe.
In my free time, I am usually catching up on reading, running, relaxing with my husband, Bob and our dog, Arlo, or enjoying doing anything outdoors.

Teaching is something that I am very passionate about. My hope is that students will leave my class – regardless of the particular subject matter – with a deeper and broader understanding of public policy and political science principals, a feeling of confidence that they did the best work they could, and the knowledge that they truly learned something valuable from my course. I strive to inspire in my students – the way several of my undergraduate professors did for me – not just the love of a single subject, but a love of learning and consuming knowledge that they can take with them through life.
